About the Poet

Charis is a young woman living in Singapore. Born an ’80s/’90s kid, she struggles to immortalise a fast-fading Kodak film childhood of riding non-air-conditioned buses that dispensed bus tickets, as well as her black-eyeliner and emocore/punk rock teenage heartbreaks, while learning to navigate a volatile world and preventing work from killing her.

When she is not teaching English Language and Literature at a local secondary school (read: yelling at uncooperative teenagers and getting yelled at by her bosses — metaphorically!), she plays the clarinet, performs her duty as a slave to her two adorable cats, writes poetry, and travels the world in search of a place to call her own.
